Where it comes from

Its preciousness is given also by its rarity —only a few hundred kilos of th e resin can be produced in a year. The resin is collected by Ovahimba women in the Kunene region of Namibia. The C. wildii trees are not tapped, unlike with most resin collection, but instead the naturally self-exuded resin is collected. This system makes the collection of resin extremely sustainable and non-damaging; resin is gathered from October-November. The resin is steam distilled at the community-owned processing center, allowing the profits of oil sales to benefit the communities.

This unique oil (traditionally used by Ovahimba women for perfume) comes from Scents of Namibia, a community-owned trust whose mission it is to ensure sustainable use of natural products and make sure that harvesters and communities benefit fairly from their commercialization.
